Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island called West Island. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think there is a separate island to the west of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She was determined to be a professional dancer, but due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." As I got bigger than my male dancers, I decided to quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted to acting. Her high school teacher school was what pushed her into the right direction. The teacher suggested she try to find a role in school's annual production. After a few auditions, she ended up as the leading lady in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her Master of Fine Arts at York University. In the last 20 years, the roles played by Brugel in the world of television and on the screen have varied. Her role as Rita from the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was the only Canadian actor during Season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
